COMPUTERS FOR YOUTH - ATLANTA
www.cfy.org
CFY is a nonprofit who helps low-income middle school students do better in school by improving their resources at home. CFY partners with schools to implement 'Take IT Home', providing a free refurbished computer and educational software to all 6th grade students that attend a half-day, Sat workshop with their parents.
CFY needs 12 volunteers/session (3 volunteers per classroom) to assist during workshops to show families how to set up computers and use the educational software/games and internet. At the end, families leave with their home learning center and newfound knowledge. Volunteers should be familiar with computers, basic computer concepts and software functions, but do not need to have an in-depth knowledge of computers. Much of the volunteer's role is to be proactive, enthusiastic, be the teacher's eyes and ears, and assist families that fall behind or have questions.
