TechBridge Translates Outdated Handheld Devices into Valuable IT Services for Nonprofits |
Atlanta – April 20, 2009. TechBridge and TGA, Inc., an Atlanta-based telecom consulting firm, have partnered to recycle handheld wireless devices. Proceeds from the wireless recycling program will help TechBridge to continue to provide professional technology services at substantially reduced rates to hundreds of nonprofit organizations throughout the Atlanta area. "The Coca-Cola Company is proud to participate in TechBridge's wireless handheld recycling program. It's a win for the environment and for the hundreds of nonprofits served by TechBridge. We encourage other Atlanta companies to get involved in this simple and effective program that has a far reaching impact in our community" said Jean-Michel Arès, SVP & CIO, The Coca-Cola Company. Equally as impressive as the funds raised, is the environmental impact generated from the program. A recent survey conducted by Nokia found that only three percent of the 6,500 people interviewed recycled their outdated mobile devices. Nokia also stated that if each of the 3 billion wireless device owners recycled just one device, the carbon emissions saved would be the equivalent of taking 4 million cars off the road. “TGA is excited about the benefits of the wireless recycling program, especially the funding that is created for TechBridge,” says Gary Humphrey, Founder of TGA. “TGA mitigates both the cost and risk to TechBridge and their corporate sponsors by managing the program from end to end. The wireless recycling program enables corporations to serve as good stewards of the environment, and through TechBridge, the proceeds have significant impact on Georgia nonprofits.” The TGA recycling program is simple to implement and accepts an array of corporate wireless devices including, but not limited to, cell phones, Blackberry®, Palm® Treo®, etc. All makes, models, conditions and wireless carriers are accepted. Program participants use pre-paid mailing labels to ship collected devices to the collection point. All corporate and personal data is removed from the donated devices through an extensive 104-point process before they are reconditioned or recycled, and participants receive an inventory report of donated devices, including make, model and associated value for their records. TechBridge thanks The Coca-Cola Company, AirTran Airways, Equifax, BlueLinx and Cbeyond for leading the way as founding donors to the program.
